Ortiz has been shut down for five to seven days after the MRI revealed that he has inflammation in both of his heels, according to Red Sox manager John Farrell.
It’s been a very strange spring for Ortiz, who continues to battle back from an Achilles injury that ended his 2012 season prematurely. Some days, it looks as if Ortiz is heading in the right direction, while others — like Sunday — cast doubt over his availability to start the season.
Farrell has stated recently that Ortiz is starting to get frustrated with how slow the process is going, so surely the slugger won’t be too pleased with the results of Saturday’s MRI.
Ortiz was in Fort Myers on Sunday, but he did not participate in any baseball activities. He was given the results by the club’s training staff, and did not comment on them to reporters.
