Earlier this week, former World Series of Poker winner Greg Raymer was arrested in a prostitution sting in Wake Forest, N.C. according to ABC News. Initial reports indicated that it was a male prostitution sting, but those have since proven to be inaccurate.
Raymer was one of five men arrested in the setup, which began with postings on a website frequently used by prostitutes to post advertisements, say police. They all face misdemeanor charges of soliciting prostitution and “crimes against nature.”
“Mr. Raymer is very sorry for this lapse in judgment,” Raymer’s lawyer, Wade Smith said. “He regrets deeply the pain he has caused his family, friends and fans. Mr. Raymer is grateful for the many expressions of support he has received.”
Raymer became famous among the poker crowd in 2004, winning the World Series of Poker. His gimmick was wearing a typically cheap pair of sunglasses that had holographic lizard eyes.
Raymer is clearly well off, as his nickname is “Fossilman” due to his collection of fossils. According to Wake County records, Raymer owns a $1.6 million house, says the report.
Bond for the six men was set at $1,000, and they are due to appear in court April 18.
