Manager John Farrell said Monday that Boston has been looking to bolster the rotation if possible.
“That’s something that has been discussed,” he told reporters. “We recognize where we’re at, as far as our starting depth is concerned, particularly with guys who have experience. Franklin [Morales’] injury affects that. Alfredo [Aceves] is a guy we know we can stretch out and will continue to do so and has major league starting experience.”
The Red Sox’ starting five of Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, John Lackey, Ryan Dempster and Felix Doubront have combined for 58 1/3 innings pitched with just 14 earned runs this spring, including 47 strikeouts and 19 walks.
