Trent Richardson Feels Responsible For NFL’s New Running Back’s Rule, Hears People Calling It the ‘T-Rich Rule’

The NFL passed a new rule on Wednesday, changing the way running backs are able to play the game, and Cleveland Browns back Trent Richardson feels responsible.

“I feel like I made it bad for all the backs,” Richardson said, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “I feel like it’s my fault.”

Richardson, who enjoyed a successful rookie seasons with over 950 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, was one of the many culprits using their helmets as battering rams of sorts last season. The NFL made an example of him during their presentation to enact the new rule, using Richardson’s head-on collision with Eagles safety Kurt Coleman from last season as Exhibit A in their case.

With the new rule passing by a 31-1 vote on Wednesday, if Richardson were to make the same play next season he would be hit with a 15-yard penalty and potentially even a fine for leading with his helmet.

“I keep hearing people call it the T-Rich rule,” Richardson said. “I guess I made some history today.”

Richardson may be the one making history for the new rule, but he isn’t the only back speaking out both in favor of or against it.
