Adam Wainwright Imagines Self as Food Critic, Says Bad Barbecue ‘Makes Me Want to Fight Somebody’

Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright may be off to a hot start, with a 2.03 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in six starts so far this season. However, the man isn’t just a pitcher, he’s a human being with many eclectic interests.

Wainwright recently sat down with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch to talk about being a foodie, among other topics. The 31-year-old right-hander also spoke about subjects like how he got his No. 50 and some of the Cardinals’ younger pitchers, but really the focus on the interview was food — Wainwright doesn’t rule out a career as a food critic after baseball.

Most of Wainwright’s interview was standard fare, but his comments on his love of barbecue did seem a little odd.

“Because I can eat good barbeque every single day of my whole life, without question, no doubt,” said Wainwright. “I can tell you that right now. I love it. I’m obsessed with it. Also, bad barbeque makes me want to fight somebody.

“… When I have a really bad rib or a really bad pulled pork, it just makes me angry. It’s such a great piece of meat to ruin.”

So, there you go, if you don’t want to make Adam Wainwright mad, don’t ruin a good piece of meat.
