Thank you, Gregg Popovich. Thank you for what has been a great NBA Finals, where you and Erik Spoelstra have coached an incredible series. Thank you also for Game 6 on Tuesday night, when you outcoached yourself with some final-minutes substitution patterns that threatened to destroy Twitter.
But, Gregg Popovich, thank you most of all for your postgame news conference.
Popovich has never been the chatty or forthright kind of coach that any writer or sideline reporter hopes for, but it takes a special brand of grumpy to make one of Popovich’s responses after the Spurs lost Tuesday night this enjoyable.
A reporter asked the standard question: What will the Spurs do for Game 7? How will they get to Game 7 after appearing to have the championship in hand and then watching the Heat peel it away on an assortment of 3-pointers, turnovers and controversial (non-) calls?
Popovich: “I get them on the bus. It arrives at the ramp over here. We get off the bus. We go on the court, and we play. That’s how we get ready.”
Again, thank you, Gregg Popovich.
Check it out in the video below.
This is not an Upton brothers family game. They actually ran into each other. (They were both OK.)
Mmm-hmm.
