Mike Emrick Used 50 Different Words for ‘Pass’ During Stanley Cup Final Game 2 Broadcast (Photo)

This is some impressive diction on the part of NBC Sports Network’s Mike Emrick.

‘Doc,’ as he is known, apparently has a way with the English language. Really, the beautiful thing about language, in general, is how you can have multiple different words that mean the same thing, yet have slightly different connotations.

As with all sports, hockey has its own lexicon, and Emrick certainly put it to the test during NBC Sports Network’s broadcast of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final on Saturday. In fact, according to one fan who wrote down every single instance, Emrick used 50 different words for “pass” during the game.

I’ve personally never heard of a hockey player “spiriting” the puck to a teammate, but, hey, whatever gets the point across. Check out a photo of a list of Emrick’s colorful language below.
