Howard, who has faced no shortage of criticism from the Lakers since announcing his intentions to jump Los Angeles for Houston, used a Disney quote to explain his decision in a interview with The Los Angeles Times. Because who can argue with the guy who gave the world Mickey Mouse and Lightning McQueen?
“Walt Disney said, ‘Big risks, big rewards,'” Howard told the Times. “He put everything he had into Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and the sky is the limit. Now there’s Disneyland and Disney World.”
We’re not sure how that relates to Howard’s situation, but OK.
What is more curious is that there is not a whole lot of evidence Disney ever even said that. He certainly could have — it’s not exactly a profound motto — but the closest thing that comes up in a Google search for “Walt Disney” and “big risks big rewards” is a passing mention by Disney co-chair Anne Sweeney in March. So not only is Howard leaving L.A., he’s also misquoting the man who brought us Woody and Buzz.
Have you no shame, Dwight?
