Alfonzo Dennard Missed Patriots Practice Due to Undisclosed Injury, Not Arrest

Alfonzo Dennard has been limited in the last few Patriots practices, and now we know why.

Dennard has been held out of team drills during recent practices due to an unspecified injury, according to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald. He stretched with the team and participated in positional drills but he was held out of team drills on Friday or Saturday.

The injury is considered minor, according to the report, and the second-year cornerback was at Gillette Stadium to continue his rehab during the Patriots’ off day on Sunday.

There had been speculation that the team was disciplining Dennard for his July arrest on suspicion of DUI.

Cornerback is expected to be an area of strength for the Patriots entering the 2013 season, but injuries have thinned out the depth in camp so far. Aside from Dennard, third-year corner Ras-I Dowling, who has missed 23 games in two seasons due to injury, is also battling an unspecified injury. He hasn’t been seen on the field since leaving practice early with an injury on Thursday. The team has had to rely on rookie cornerback Logan Ryan to fill the void.

Dennard has been at all eight of the Patriots’ training camp practices. No timetable has been given for his return.
