Former Temple University Football Player Turns Down Invite to Buccaneers Training Camp to Sign With WWE

Now, here’s a transition you don’t see very often.

A former college football player has turned down a shot at the NFL to pursue a career in the WWE. Morkeith Brown reportedly turned down an invitation to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ training camp and signed a development deal with World Wrestling Entertainment after playing football four years at Temple University, according to The 700 Level.

The 6-foot-5, 255-pound Brown already had a pretty unique back story — the 28-year-old joined the Army right out of high school and was deployed to Afghanistan for 14 months from 2005-2006. Upon his return, Brown enrolled at Temple in 2007 and joined the football team in 2008. He started all 13 games at defensive end during his senior year and was a team captain.

After his college career was over, Brown spent some time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at training camp before spending a season with the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League.
