Joe McKnight‘s bizarre training camp took another strange turn Monday.
The Jets running back, whose camp has included showing up out of shape, failing a conditioning test and getting arrested for outstanding traffic warrants, had another rough day at the office at the team’s practice on Monday. McKnight reportedly had to stop three times on his way to the field for practice and was then tended to by trainers after he was forced to bend down on one knee. To make matters worse, he was then cleared to practice only to be carted off the field after getting injured during a passing drill.
McKnight’s odd day was only getting started, though. After practice, he noticed a few critical messages sent to him via Twitter, and he decided to respond. The problem? McKnight thought he was challenging a Jets reporter, when it was actually just a fan.
In one message, McKnight asked “are you outside” to a critic, presumably challenging him to fight. A Jets spokesman later confirmed that the tweets indeed came from McKnight, whose account isn’t verified, and that he thought the criticism was coming from a media member.
