Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand on Same Line as Team Canada Has Street Hockey-Style Practice (Photos)

No ice? No problem.

Hockey Canada didn’t need ice to begin its preparations for the Sochi Olympics on Monday, as the hopefuls played a little street hockey at orientation in Calgary.

Head coach Mike Babcock wanted to run some walk-throughs on the Olympic-sized, 200-by-100-foot rink, but because of insurance issues, not all players were able to skate. Instead, they tossed on some sneakers and played a little ball hockey on an iceless surface. Bruins forwards Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand were “skating” together on the second line with Jordan Eberle. Milan Lucic was paired with Matthew Duchene and James Neal.
