Alex Rodriguez Strikes Modeling Pose After Tripping Over Own Feet, Belly-Flopping Into Second Base (Video)

It’s just too easy to pick on Alex Rodriguez sometimes. It’s even easier when he tries to get in on the joke and instead makes himself even more laughable.

The latest incident came Thursday night, when Rodriguez got a hold of a Jake Peavy pitch midway through the Yankees’ 9-8 loss to the Red Sox and carved a double into the right-center gap. When Rodriguez made his turn to go to second, though, he had a little trouble, tripping over his own feet. Realizing he had to hoof it to get to second before the incoming relay, Rodriguez turned on the gas — but then slid a bit too late. He also chose a headfirst slide, leaving him sort of belly-flopping onto his chest on the way to the bag.

It was a comical sequence, and Rodriguez knew it immediately. So, he tried to be a good sport about it and laugh at himself, but he quickly added to the pantheon of “only A-Rod” moments with his next move. As he rolled over, arm still on the base, and looked back at his teammates in the dugout, Rodriguez appeared to be striking a modeling pose, legs folded and all. If there was one way to make the whole situation more cringe-worthy, that was it.

That was the bulk of Rodriguez’s misfortune for the night, though. While the Yankees collapsed in the ninth, Rodriguez’s mishaps were limited to that bumble — which still yielded a double — and only garden-variety misplays and at-bats.

At least he has this one for the scrapbook.
