Red Sox Hit Eight Home Runs, Make Franchise History in 20-4 Rout of Tigers (Video)

The Red Sox sent 15 different players to the plate at some point during Thursday night’s game against the Detroit Tigers. Seven of those players hit a home run.

The Boston offense turned in its most impressive outing of the season Thursday, as the Sox absolutely hammered the American League Central-leading Tigers 20-4 in the series finale of a three-game set. When it was all said and done — the Tigers probably should have thrown in the towel at some point — the Red Sox had hit eight home runs.

The eight dingers matched a franchise record for home runs in a single game. The Red Sox also did it on the Fourth of July back in 1977.

Seven Red Sox players — Stephen Drew, Jacoby Ellsbury, David Ortiz (twice), Will Middlebrooks (grand slam), Daniel Nava, Ryan Lavarnway and Mike Napoli — hit a home run. It was the first time in franchise history that seven different players hit a home run in a game.
