Tigers catcher Alex Avila left Thursday night’s Game 4 of the ALCS against the Red Sox in the fourth inning and didn’t return.
Avila took at least two blows to the head early in the game, including one in a collision with Red Sox catcher David Ross as the latter was trying to reach home plate. Avila also suffered a strained patella tendon in his left knee in the collision, according to CBS Sports, and is listed as day-to day.
During the ALCS, Avila has gone 3-for-11 with a homer, four walks and three strikeouts.
