Report: Brian McCann Could Receive Six-Year, $100 Million Deal, According to One MLB GM

Brian McCann may be joining a very elite club in Major League Baseball in the next year.

Before the 2011 season, the Twins signed Joe Mauer to an eight-year, $184 million extension, and a year later the Giants took a nod from Minnesota and inked Buster Posey to a nine-year, $167 million deal.

Now, McCann could be headed to the $100-million crew after raking in $12 million in 2013.

According to ESPNNewYork, an MLB general manager believes the seven-time All-Star could receive a six-year, $100 million deal. The report states “the GM reasoned that McCann is a top-five catcher and could transition to first and DH toward the end of the deal.” The 29-year-old is set to become a free agent during the offseason.

McCann is a lifetime .277/.350/.473 hitter with 176 home runs and 661 RBIs over the course of his nine-year career with the Braves. The catcher also won the Silver Slugger Award five times.
