Report: Jerod Mayo Has Pectoral Surgery, Could Miss Rest of Patriots’ Season

First, the Patriots’ defense lost Vince Wilfork to injury. Now, it’s possible that Jerod Mayo could join that list.

The sixth-year linebacker left Sunday’s game against the Saints with his arm in a sling, and the reason for that measure has come to light. Mayo reportedly underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn pectoral muscle suffered during Sunday’s matchup, according to a report from Les Carpenter of Yahoo! Sports.

The surgery is typically season-ending in nature, according to Carpenter.

The loss is a huge one to a Patriots team that was able to eke out a last-second win over the Saints on Sunday. Mayo is the team’s leading tackler with 55 total, and 35 solo tackles.

The Pats also saw wide receiver Danny Amendola, guard Dan Connolly and Aqib Talib go down with injuries Sunday.
