Report: Yankees to Pay Final Tribute to Mariano Rivera, Will Play Exhibition Games in Panama City

The Yankees aren’t quite done honoring Mariano Rivera.

According to Mark Feisand of the New York Daily Newsthe Yanks and the Marlins will play a couple of exhibition games in Panama City, Panama — the closer’s hometown — on March 15-16, 2014.

Taking a break from their Grapefruit League schedule, the two squads will face off in a pair of spring games to honor the legendary closer in his home. The recently retired Rivera has reportedly been briefed on the event, but the official announcement isn’t expected for another week or two.

The Yankees originally came up with this arrangement in September, and although it is unclear what role Rivera will play in the final tribute, he was “thrilled” at the possibility when No. 42 heard about the Bronx Bombers coming to the country he hails from.
