Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery let his temper get the best of him Saturday night, and it cost his squad the game.
With his No. 22 Hawkeyes leading No. 4 Wisconsin 41-39 midway through the second half, McCaffery chose an unfortunate time to lose his cool. The 54-year-old head coach was upset with a couple of calls that didn’t go Iowa’s way in consecutive possessions, and he made sure that the referees, the players and everyone in the Kohl Center knew he wasn’t a happy guy.
McCaffery unloaded on the referees during a TV timeout and was promptly given a technical foul for his outburst. The show didn’t end there, however, as McCaffery then bumped into a second official while he continued to yell, earning him a second technical and an ejection.
The Badgers capitalized on McCaffery’s meltdown, hitting all four of their free throws, and they eventually held on to win 75-71.
