Joba Chamberlain Drops 15 Pounds, Adds Beard During Offseason (Photo)

New team, new Joba Chamberlain.

The former New York Yankees reliever signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Tigers this offseason and will enter spring training with a different look. While he didn’t undergo a weight loss transformation as noticeable as Pablo Sandoval, Chamberlain has slimmed down in an effort to get in shape for the 2014 season.

“I’ve probably lost 15, 20 pounds,” Chamberlain said, via The Detroit Free Press. “But it’s good weight. It’s one of those things, now just being healthy and not having to worry about my ankle, now worrying about my elbow, just doing the things I need. It’s been a great offseason.”

Chamberlain did gain one thing during the winter months. The Tigers don’t implement any strict rules regarding facial hair like the Yankees do, so Chamberlain is taking advantage of the whisker freedom and rocking a beard.
