Report: Geno Smith Kicked Off Flight For Refusing To Turn Off Cell Phone

New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith ran into a bit of trouble Friday in an attempt to get home. Smith boarded a Virgin America flight from Los Angeles to Ft. Lauderdale, but was asked to get off the plane before it took off.

Smith was reportedly involved in a dispute with a flight attendant, which started when the quarterback refused to stop talking on his cell phone before takeoff, according to ESPN. The flight attendant asked Smith to take off his headphones, but Smith didn’t immediately respond because he couldn’t hear her.

That’s when the flight attendant unplugged Smith’s headphones and “threw them down,” telling the quarterback he was a “threat” and asked him to leave the plane. Smith got off the plane voluntarily and was not escorted out of the terminal. He was questioned by police at the gate and released.

“Police didn’t go on the aircraft,” Sgt. Belinda Nettles said. “The subject already was at the gate [when they arrived].”

Video from TMZ shows Smith leaving LAX and entering a car service Town Car that arrived at the airport to pick him up. Virgin America refused to rebook Smith’s flight.
