Couples bought two Super Bowl tickets six months ago in hopes that his hometown team, the Seattle Seahawks, would make it to the big game.
Though his intuition proved correct, Couples, who doesn’t play golf frequently due to chronic back problems, will still be in the United Arab Emirates for the Dubai Desert Classic on February 2.
While he joked to ESPN.com that he just didn’t have enough holes to butcher, Couples said that he needed to give his best on the course.
“There’s no way I would ever not try,” Couples said to ESPN.com. “So I’ll watch it on TV, that’s the next best thing.”
Watching the game on television isn’t altogether a bad option, but the 3:30 a.m. start time in the UAE means Couples will probably be a little tired afterward. Losing out on 50-yard line seats obviously isn’t ideal, but for Couples, having his favorite team competing for a championship will just have to suffice.
