Eli the ape of Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Buffett the manatee of Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium in Sarasota, Fla., have picked their 2014 Super Bowl champions.
Wondering why the input of these two zoo inhabitants is relevant? Both Eli and Buffet have successfully selected Super Bowl winners six years in a row. With a track record like that, they are better at predicting Super Bowl outcomes than Vegas odds-makers.
One can only guess how they make their selections. Special access to game footage, team meetings or MetLife Stadium weather reports are unlikely but not completely out of the question. While their oddly accurate clairvoyance is a mystery, it appears one reigning psychic will be proven wrong this year as Eli and Buffet chose opposing teams.
Eli chose his winner Thursday morning without hesitation by knocking down a Seattle Seahawks papier-mâché helmet while Buffet swam into a sign with the Denver Broncos logo on it. Broncos and Seahawks fans alike can hope their respective manatee and ape go 7-out-7 in each of their predictions.
