Olympic Hockey Schedule: USA, Finland Battle For Bronze; Canada, Sweden Go For Gold

The United States men’s hockey team didn’t earn an opportunity to play for a gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics, but it still has a chance to reach the podium.

The Americans will take on Finland in Saturday’s bronze medal game after the U.S. lost to Canada 1-0 in Friday’s semifinal.

Team USA has not won a bronze medal in men’s ice hockey since 1936, and a win against the Finns would give the United States back-to-back medals in the event for the first time in over 50 years.

The Canadians will take on Sweden in the gold medal game Sunday as the defending champions attempt to become the first nation to claim back-to-back titles since NHL players began participating in Olympic competition at the 1998 Nagano Games.

Sweden will be a tough test for Canada because the Scandinavian nation has improved with each game in Sochi and several of its players were part of the 2006 squad that won an Olympic gold in Torino.
