The Revs traded their first-round pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft and allocation money to Sporting KC for the 23-year-old striker.
“We’ve been very open about our desire to add some additional attacking players to our roster ahead of the season, and we believe Teal is a player who can make the sort of impact we need,” Revolution general manager Michael Burns said in a statement. “He’s a talented, young player who can add a dynamic element to our system, and we’re looking forward to getting him into camp and integrated into our group as soon as possible.”
Bunbury has scored 19 goals and assisted on seven more in four MLS seasons. He helped Sporting KC win the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and MLS Cup 2013.
Bunbury holds dual U.S. and Canadian citizenship. After representing Canada at the U-17 and U-20 levels, Bunbury pledged his international future to the U.S. national team. He has made four appearances for the U.S. senior national team since 2011.
Bunbury’s father, Alex, was a striker for both the Kansas City Wizards (now Sporting Kansas City, from 1999-2000) and Canada’s national team (1986-1997).
The 6-foot-2 Bunbury likely will play as a central striker with the Revs, competing with Dimitry Imbongo, Jerry Bengtson and Saer Sene for playing time.
Bunbury will join his new teammates for preseason training in Tuscon, Ariz., later this week.
