Cam Newton To Undergo Ankle Surgery, Will Be Out Four Months

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will undergo ankle surgery Wednesday and will need approximately four months of recovery time, the team announced Tuesday.

According to the Panthers, Newton has been having issues with soreness in his ankle since the end of the season.

“The ankle was sore after the San Francisco game and we wanted to see if rest would calm it down, but it is still bothering him and the decision was made to address it,” Panthers head trainer Ryan Vermillion said, via Pro Football Talk.

Carolina has watched its top four receivers from a year ago walk this offseason, so losing their quarterback for a few months might not be the Panthers’ biggest concern.

Newton will likely miss most or all organized team activities, but he is expected to return for training camp.
