Report: Phil Jackson Serious About Knicks Front Office Job Offer

The New York Knicks are turning to a 13-time NBA champion to help the team in a front office role, and that man — Phil Jackson — is strongly considering taking the job.

The Kicks have reportedly offered the 68-year-old a front office job that would give him final say on basketball decisions, according to CBSSports.com, citing a league source. Jackson is considering taking the position if the “structure is right,” with current executive vice president and general manager Steve Mills and assistant general manager Allan Houston handling the day-to-day duties while reporting to Jackson.

Jackson, an 11-time champion as a coach — and two-time champion as a player for the Knicks — has said he is finished coaching. The front office job — described as “a very expensive consultant who would have final say” — is extremely appealing to Jackson if it’s set up right.

Jackson’s championship resume and stature would serve at least one purpose beneficial to the struggling Knicks — attracting free agents. The Knicks are in the middle of one of its worst seasons in a quarter century, and risk losing prospective free agent Carmelo Anthony if the team doesn’t right the ship soon.
