Reports: Nets To Sign Jason Collins For Remainder Of Season

The Brooklyn Nets will sign veteran center Jason Collins for the remainder of the 2013-14 season on Saturday after his second 10-day contract expires, ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk and Marc Stein report, citing multiple sources.

The team signed Collins on Feb. 23 to a 10-day contract to add depth to their frontcourt, but sources told Youngmisuk and Stein that the Nets believed even then he would be a Net for the rest of the season.

Collins, who became the first openly gay athlete in North America’s four major team sports when he made his debut against the Lakers in February, is averaging 9.8 minutes and less than a point per game off the bench in eight appearances this season.
