Tuukka Rask was listening to the national anthem at Joe Louis Arena before Tuesday’s Game 3 when a Red Wings fan threw an octopus onto the ice and nearly hit the Boston Bruins goaltender.
Throwing an octopus onto the ice before the first period begins is a tradition that goes back more than five decades in Detroit.
Perhaps the Red Wings fan was trying to rattle the Bruins netminder. Rask entered the game leading the playoffs with a stellar 1.02 goals against average and a .966 save percentage.
