Mia Weinberg and her family were visiting Detroit from Los Angeles when she was able to find last-minute tickets to Friday night’s Red Wings game. It was the team’s regular-season finale, as well as Fan Appreciation Night.
Weinberg was sitting with her son and daughter, The Hockey News reported, and her young son, Elijah, was lucky enough to have his seat chosen in a drawing to win an Xbox One. The only problem was Weinberg hadn’t purchased that seat.
Weinberg was able to find two seats together and one in another part of the arena. When she took her two children to the seats that were together, she saw a third seat was open and decided to wait until the ticket holder showed up, but he never did. Well, not until he saw the seat was the winning one.
Elijah already had been given his prize, but the man came to claim it from him anyway. Luckily for the Weinbergs, the fans around them saw how disappointed Elijah was and decided to help. One fan gave him a Pavel Datsyuk-signed puck, and another gave him a Red Wings hat.
Then the Red Wings stepped in and gave him the best gift of all. The family went on the ice after the game and meet Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard, who presented Elijah with a signed stick.
Elijah didn’t get his Xbox One, but the Red Wings gave him something that’s sure to last longer than any game console.
