David Ortiz’s Game-Tying Homer Makes Turner Field Sound Like Fenway (Video)

The Boston Red Sox needed something or someone to turn them around Monday afternoon in Atlanta. That someone ended up being designated hitter David Ortiz. Because of course.

The Red Sox ended a 10-game losing streak — their longest in 20 years — with an 8-6 win over the Braves, and Ortiz played a pivotal role, especially in the fifth inning.

That’s when Ortiz came to bat with runners on first and second and Boston trailing 6-3. Atlanta starter Ervin Santana threw a pitch over the plate on the outside corner — a major mistake — Ortiz went with it, driving it to left-center field. The ball cleared the fence and tied the game.

Ortiz’s blast came on the road, but the large contingent of Red Sox fans at Turner Field made it sound like the game was being played at Fenway Park. The homer sent those traveling Red Sox fans into hysteria and set the stage for the Boston’s slump-busting win.

Ortiz drove in the eventual winning run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
