Dodgers Prospect Alex Guerrero Loses Part Of Ear During Dugout Fight With Teammate

It’s all fun and games until a teammate goes all Mike Tyson on another teammate.

Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Alex Guerrero was involved in a dugout altercation with Triple-A teammate Miguel Olivo during their game Tuesday with the Albuquerque Isotopes that escalated rapidly and resulted in Guerrero losing part of his ear.

The two teammates exchanged blows during the eighth inning against the Salt Lake Bees, and the brawl got so heated at one point that the game had to be stopped, per Steve Luhm of the Salt Lake Tribune.

According to Guerrero’s agent Scott Boras, Olivio, the Isotopes catcher, bit off part of his client’s ear. Boras told CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman that Olivio took exception when Guerrero didn’t attempt to tag a runner in the bottom of the seventh inning. Teammates were seen arguing on the field as they made their way back into the dugout, and soon after, the fight broke out. Olivio first punched his teammate,  but once his arms were restrained by others in the dugout, he lunged and took a chunk out of Guerrero’s ear.

“It’s assault and battery,” Boras said, via Heyman. “There’s nothing he could have said to prompt this.”

Boras also told FOXSports.com that Guerrero was having plastic surgery on his ear, and police have gathered evidence and collected witness statements.

The Dodgers released a statement saying they were aware and investigating the situation.
