The Sox hope to take the rubber game of the series on Sunday and will send righthander John Lackey to the mound.
Lackey took the loss in his last start against the Oakland A’s on May 4 but pitched very well in his two previous starts, allowing just three earned runs over a total of 16 innings while striking out 15.
Boston will roll out the same batting lineup as Saturday, with the one change coming at the catcher position, where A.J. Pierzynski will get the start and bat seventh.
The Sox will face another lefthander in Rangers starting pitcher Robbie Ross, who is 1-3 on the young season with a 4.74 ERA.
UPDATE, 2:18 p.m. ET: Will Middlebrooks originally was scheduled to play third base and bat eighth, but he has been scratched from the Red Sox’s lineup for “precautionary reasons.” Middlebrooks was hit on the hand by a pitch in the eighth inning of Saturday’s game against the Rangers.
