In an interview with USA Today Sports, Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback and first-round draft pick Johnny Manziel seemed to come down to earth when responding to the news of being told to act like a backup.
”I’m a rookie,” Manziel said. ”I need to earn my place. I need to earn my keep. Nothing here needs to be handed to me. I don’t need to be treated based off what I did in the past, because that doesn’t mean a thing at this level.”
Manziel continued, ”I was completely OK with hearing that from everybody. I don’t want to come in and have anything handed to me that I don’t deserve.”
Hearing talk like this from Johnny Football must be refreshing for the Browns organization, as many teams were afraid to draft him with worries that he was too obsessed with fame. The Browns have already seen season ticket and jersey sales skyrocket and have had to limit media access to Manziel.
Check out what else the apparently-humbled Manziel had to say in the video below.
