Doubront is scheduled to start Friday’s game in Oakland. The Red Sox are looking to bounce back after dropping Thursday’s series opener 4-2.
Doubront was placed on the DL on May 21 with a left shoulder strain. The southpaw suffered the injury while bumping into a car door prior to his May 20 start, which he exited prematurely after feeling discomfort. Doubront has made three rehab starts — two with Pawtucket and one with Double-A Portland — and now will rejoin the Red Sox with pitcher Brandon Workman serving his six-game suspension that was upheld by Major League Baseball following a lengthy appeal process.
Doubront is 2-4 with a 5.12 ERA in nine major league starts this season. The 26-year-old posted a 2.63 ERA (four earned runs over 13 2/3 innings) with 15 strikeouts, 10 hits allowed and five walks in his three rehab starts.
