Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli Doesn’t Expect Team To Trade Up In NHL Draft

The Boston Bruins will have a lot of time on their hands Friday night in the first round of the 2014 NHL entry draft, as they aren’t scheduled to make a selection until pick No. 25.

The Bruins always could move up, but Peter Chiarelli doesn’t expect them to make such a move. The general manager indicated Friday morning that the price simply is too high right now, so it’s unlikely he’ll be able to trade up the draft board.

This year’s draft class isn’t terrific, but a handful of impact players can be had at the top of Round 1. The teams who have those picks know that, and they’re either holding steady or asking for a big haul in return.

Instead, the Bruins likely will look for a value pick at No. 25, where they should have a few options to add some depth.
