Switzerland Needs Stoppage Time To Top Ecuador 2-1 In 2014 World Cup

Switzerland was expected to beat Ecuador with ease in their first game of the 2014 World Cup, but, surprisingly enough, it took them nearly three minutes of extra time to seal the deal.

Haris Seferovic connected on a goal at 92:37, giving Switzerland the dramatic injury-time win on Sunday afternoon. Ricardo Rodriguez raced down the left side of the field and crossed the ball to Seferovic, who lifted it into the top of the net for the win.

Ecuador’s Enner Valencia broke the scoreless tie with a header 22 minutes in, but Switzerland would respond with an Admir Mehmedi goal minutes into the second half to tie things up at 1-1.

Ottmar Hitzfeld brought in Mehmedi to start the second half, and the striker headed the equalizer just moments into his first action of the contest.

Switzerland had a goal taken away after a controversial offside call that would have put them up 2-1 in regulation. Instead, they had to go into extra minutes to finish this one.
