John Brooks Scores USA’s Winning Goal Against Ghana At 2014 World Cup

The United States appeared to be headed for a draw conceding a late goal to Ghana in Thursday’s opening group-stage game at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

But substitute John Brooks saved the Americans in the 86th minute when he headed a corner kick past Ghanaian goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda.

Team USA was able to defend Tim Howard’s goal for the remainder of the game to secure a 2-1 victory.

Brooks, who was making his fifth appearance for the national team, also made U.S. World Cup history with his clutch goal.
