Cardinals Catcher Uses ‘Wolf Of Wall Street’ Scene As Walk-Up Song (Video)

Tony Cruz doesn’t get the chance to hit very often, but when he does, he certainly makes the most of it.

Cruz is the backup catcher to St. Louis Cardinals All-Star Yadier Molina, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 10 with an injured thumb.

Molina’s injury has allowed Cruz to see some extended time, which is great news for sports fans everywhere, because it has given us the opportunity to hear Cruz’s awesome — if not slightly unsettling — walk-up song.

No, Busch Stadium was not invaded by a strange chanting man Tuesday night. That voice you hear is actor Matthew McConaughey, beating his chest and chanting rhythmically in a memorable scene from the recent movie “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

Cruz apparently interpreted the term “song” very loosely, but everyone — especially the Cardinals’ television broadcasters — seemed to love it.

Unfortunately, the 27-year-old catcher had little to beat his chest about on Tuesday, going 0-for-4 in a 7-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.

In the world of walk-up songs, though, Cruz struck gold.
