New England Revolution End Losing Streak, Shut Out Colorado Rapids

It’s finally over.

The New England Revolution defeated the Colorado Rapids 3-0 at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday night to end their eight-game losing streak.

The Revolution took a 1-0 advantage in the 10th minute when Lee Nguyen’s shot went off of Rapids defender Drew Moor and into the net. Moor was credited with an own goal. It was the first time New England had led or scored first in an MLS game since May.

The teams traded chances for the next hour until Colorado defender Thomas Piermayr was sent off in the 74th minute after receiving his second yellow card of the game.

The Revs doubled their lead soon after Piermayr’s dismissal when Nguyen scored with a stunning free kick that beat the Rapids goalkeeper in the top left corner of the net.

Kelyn Rowe added an insurance goal a few minutes later as the Revolution defense held strong to pick up the clean sheet.

The win improved New England’s record to 8-11-2. It will continue MLS play Saturday against the New York Red Bulls at the Red Bull Arena.
