Patrick Peterson: ‘I’m Having Fun’ With Richard Sherman Twitter Beef

Patrick Peterson became the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL on Wednesday, signing a five-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals worth $70 million.

Peterson’s deal includes $48 million guaranteed, higher than Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman’s contract extension (worth $40 million guaranteed) that the Super Bowl champ signed in May.

That prompted a Twitter feud between the two, during which Sherman eventually snapped a picture of his Super Bowl ring with the caption: “Can’t ever be too mad lmao…”

To Peterson, though, it’s all in good fun.

“I don’t know how he feels about (it) but I think it’s just fun, healthy competition,” Peterson said Wednesday, via ESPN.com. “I’m having fun with it. Sometimes it seems like he’s a little salty about it. But it is what it is. I don’t have any problems with Richard. I don’t have any beef with him. I’m having fun. I don’t know if he’s having fun.”

The online beef between the players isn’t just going to make fans laugh, though. Peterson thinks it will help his on-field performance, as well.

“I think it’s just going to make me take my game to the next level,” the LSU product said. “Obviously, we had our exchanges over the last month or so — obviously he’s still exchanging words this morning. But like I said, it is what it is.”

In case you’re wondering, the Seahawks and Cardinals square off for the first time in Week 12 this season. The game is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 23 in Seattle.

“I have no harsh feelings toward Richard, I wish him the best of luck throughout his career, throughout his season,” Peterson said. “I guess it’ll be much-watch TV when we play Seattle.”
