Ray Rice, Michael Vick Among Most Controversial NFL Suspensions (Photos)

The NFL suspended Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice for the first two games of the 2014 NFL season on Thursday for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

The news comes after Rice got into an altercation with then-fiancée Janay Palmer at an Atlantic City hotel in February. Rice allegedly struck Palmer unconscious while in a casino elevator, as video later surfaced of the 27-year-old running back dragging Palmer on the ground.

Rice’s suspension of two games is less than the season-long suspension Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon faces for testing positive for marijuana. It’s also less than Richie Incognito’s three-month suspension for bullying claims made by Miami Dolphins teammate Jonathan Martin.

Rice now joins the likes of Michael Vick, Jimmy Haslam and Plaxico Burress on the list of controversial NFL suspension decisions. Some of the others on the list might surprise you.
