The super-prospect made his major league debut on Tuesday night against the Colorado Rockies, and the infielder did not disappoint.
Baez was held hitless in his first five at-bats, including three strikeouts. However, it’s what Baez did in the 12th inning that has Cubs fans even more excited to see what he can bring to the table. The Puerto Rican infielder showed off impressive power by driving an outside fastball to the opposite field for the go-ahead home run. Chicago was able to hold the lead in the bottom half of the inning, and Baez’s legend grew overnight.
Baez entered the season as Baseball America’s No. 5 prospect and Baseball Prospectus’ No. 4 prospect. He had 23 home runs and 80 RBIs in 104 games at Triple-A Iowa at the time of his call-up.
