Jermaine Jones Joins Revolution; U.S. Star Scored Big World Cup Goal

The New England Revolution have added one of the United States men’s national soccer team’s top players in Jermaine Jones.

According to a release from the team, Jones “has joined the New England Revolution via a blind draw conducted by Major League Soccer. He will be added to the Revs’ roster upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and will be one of the team’s designated players.”

“I’m very excited to come to MLS and join the Revolution,” Jones said, per the team. “New England is an exciting team on the rise, and I believe I can come in and help the team make a push toward MLS Cup. Playing with the U.S. National Team has given me a great connection with the American fans and I’m looking forward to playing in front of them every weekend. I’m ready to get started with the Revs.”

The 32-year-old forward has spent the last 14 years playing in Europe, including stops in England’s Premier League (Blackburn Rovers) and Germany’s Bundesliga (Bayer Leverkusen and FC Schalke 04). He played for the United States at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, scoring a key goal against Portugal during the group stage.

The Revolution are sixth in the Eastern Conference standings with 30 points (9-12-3).
