Jonathan Papelbon Ejected After Making Obscene Gesture At Fans (GIF)
Jonathan Papelbon has, at times, had a tumultuous relationship with Phillies fans in his three seasons in Philadelphia. That might have hit a new low Sunday at Citizens Bank Ballpark.
Papelbon blew a four-run lead in the ninth inning, as the former Boston Red Sox closer allowed the Miami Marlins to take a 5-4 lead. Phillies fans reacted exactly how you might expect.
After Papelbon finally closed out the inning, Phillies fans showered him with boos, as they have on multiple occasions this season. Papelbon apparently had enough, as he responded to the boos by grabbing his crotch.

Umpire crew chief Joe West saw the obscene gesture and wasted no time in ejecting Papelbon. The closer became enraged and got in West’s face before eventually leaving (or being forced off) the field.
