Ottawa Police: Sidney Crosby Arrest Report ‘Out-And-Out Blatant Lie’

Some big NHL news appeared to drop in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

That’s when the QMI Agency reported Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby had been arrested in Canada’s capital after a driving-related incident. However, that report appears to be untrue.

The story was posted on the Ottawa Sun’s website and the London Free Press’ website, but both have been deleted. Ottawa police chief Charles Bordeleau tweeted Wednesday morning that his department had “no dealings” with Crosby, and it also commented on the story to various news outlets.

“It’s an out-and-out blatant lie,” Sergeant Steven Hodgson told 1310News in Ottawa. “As far as I know, somebody is pulling something here.”

According to the report, Crosby was arrested while driving a rented Porsche and was taken to the Ottawa police station for fingerprinting and a mugshot.

Those details, however, appear to be false.

UPDATE (7:12 a.m.): Crosby currently is training in Colorado for the upcoming season, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger.
