Red Sox Manager John Farrell To Lead MLB All-Star Team In Japan Series
Farrell will manage a group of Major League Baseball All-Stars this November in Japan, the league announced Thursday. He was selected to replace Ron Washington, who recently resigned as manager of the Texas Rangers.
The Japan All-Star Series is a set of games between MLB All-Stars and All-Stars from Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball. This year’s event will mark the first since 2006 — it recently lost steam because of the World Baseball Classic — and take place Nov. 11-Nov. 20.
Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr., David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Ichiro Suzuki and Hideki Matsui have competed in previous Japan All-Star Series. Ryan Howard was the last All-Star Series MVP in 2006.
Robinson Cano, Adam Jones, Yasiel Puig and Albert Pujols are among the stars expected to play this year, according to MLB.com.
