Oscar Pistorius Sentenced To Five Years In Prison For Killing Girlfriend

A South African judge sentenced track and field star Oscar Pistorius to five years in prison Tuesday for killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

Judge Thokozile Masipa cited “gross negligence” after Pistorius shot Steenkamp multiple times through a bathroom door in his home last year. Pistorius was found not guilty of murder in September, but he still faced lesser negligent killing charges.

According to legal experts cited by The Associated Press, Pistorius, a double-amputee who competed in the 2012 Olympics, could be eligible for house arrest after serving 10 months in jail.
