Utah Jazz Sign 5-Year-Old With Leukemia To One-Day Contract (Photos)

The Utah Jazz made an important — and adorable — last-minute signing.

The team announced before its instrasquad scrimmage Monday that 5-year-old JP Gibson, who has been fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia since 2012, would sign a one-day contract and suit up for the scrimmage.

JP’s parents Josh and Megan Gibson and his 2-year-old sister Elsie joined the young “free-agent guard” as he inked his deal with Jazz president Randy Rigby.

JP even got a pep talk from Jazz coach Quin Snyder and practiced with the team before game time.

The signing was made possible by the Jazz and the “Anything Can Be” project, which helps families affected by childhood cancer.
