Yordano Ventura Dedicates World Series Start To Oscar Taveras (Photo)

Oscar Taveras was a top prospect and likely had a long career ahead of him before it was cut short by a car accident in the Dominican Republic that killed him and his girlfriend Sunday.

The death of the 22-year-old St. Louis Cardinals right fielder sent shock waves through Major League Baseball, and players all around the league took to social media to express their sorrow and offer condolences to Taveras’ family.

But Kansas City Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura used baseball’s biggest stage to pay tribute to his friend.

According to HardballTalk, Ventura and Taveras became good friends while they were both playing in the Double-A Texas League, so the rookie pitcher dedicated his start in Game 6 of the World Series to Taveras on Tuesday.

The Cardinals also remembered the late outfielder in their own way Tuesday, which was also the day of Taveras’ funeral. In a simple but extremely moving tribute, the team turned on the right field lights, illuminating the spot where Taveras once stood.
